About Us

Appleton Sign Company's origin goes back to 1984 when Mark and Nancy Wildenberg purchased the first Dr. Vinyl franchise in Wisconsin. The original business was vinyl repairing with the main customer base being car dealerships and restaurants. The Dr. Vinyl dealership grew to be one of the top 10 in the U.S.

In 1992, Mark and Nancy Wildenberg sold their Dr. Vinyl franchise and started a graphics and sign company they named Special-T-Graphics Sign. Their company grew as they began to produce fleet graphics for customers such as Jack's Pizza and U.S. Oil Company. Through hard work, good people, and a genuine concern for their customers, Special-T-Graphics expanded; growing their customer base to the point were Special-T-Graphics was in the position to purchase Appleton Neon & Sign Company, which has been in existence in the Fox Valley since 1935. In 1998, Mark Wildenberg purchased Appleton Neon & Sign Company from then owner, Jim Hartzheim, and the two entities merged forming a full-service sign manufacturing and installation company.

Two years later in April of 2000, Special-T-Graphics purchased Sign-Tech of Wisconsin, a direct competitor in the sign installation business. With the acquisition of Appleton Neon & Sign Company and Sign-Tech of Wisconsin, the management of Special-T-Graphics made the decision to combine their three businesses under one name and today the company is known as Appleton Sign Company.

Appleton Sign Company, which employs over 40 associates, is the premier Sign Company in the Fox Valley boasting a nation wide customer base. Their business continues to expand through the efforts of their dedicated employees and an innovative management team.
